Description: | THE ETHOS PROJECT REFERS TO O NOVEL TYPE WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER (WEC) SYSTEM SUITABLE FOR OFFSHORE WOVE ENERGY EXPLOITATION IN THE AEGEAN SEA. THE PROPOSAL COMBINES A MULTI-DISCIPLINE PARTNERSHIP, WHICH COVERS ALL TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE ETHOS WEC SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN, FOLLOWING A SYSTEMATIC AND INTEGRATED DESIGN APPROACH. THE CONCEPT EMPLOYS OPTIMIZED STRUCTURAL DESIGN FEATURES AND MOORING/TENDON CHARACTERISTICS FOR ON OSCILLATING WATER COLUMN WEC. BY DETERMINING THE DESIGNATED RANGE OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AT THE DEPLOYMENT LOCATION. THE NOVEL FLOATING WEC SYSTEM ENCOMPASSES A COMBINATION OF COAXIAL HOLLOW CYLINDRICAL BODIES AIMING AT MAXIMIZING THE SYSTEM'S WOVE POWER EFFICIENCY. TOWARDS THIS GOAL THE VIABILITY OF THE PROPOSED TECHNOLOGY IS EXOMINED THROUGH A HOLISTIC HYDRO-AERODYNAMIC ANALYSIS. THE INCORPORATION OF MULTIPLE WATER OSCILLATING CHAMBERS CAN REPRESENT A POWER-EFFICIENT ENGINEERING SOLUTION BY INCREASING THE ANTICIPATED ENERGY EXTRACTION WHEN COMPARED TO THE CORRESPONDING EFFICIENCY ASSOCIATED WITH OTHER TYPES OF WECS. IN ADDITION. ETHOS COMPRISES THE MANUFACTURING OF A SCALED-DOWN PHYSICAL MODEL OF THE PROPOSED WEC AND CONDUCTING OF EXTENSIVE EXPERIMENTAL CAMPAIGN IN THE WAVE TANK TO SIMULATE ITS DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR FOR THE OPERATIONAL AND EXTREME SEA STATE CONDITIONS AT THE SELECTED LOCATION. THE MAIN AND ULTIMATE SCOPE OF THE ETHOS PROJECT IS THE PRESENTATION OF THE FINAL DESIGN OF THE WEC SYSTEM, IN THE FORM OF A DETAILED REPORT AND SPECIFIC DRAWINGS, SUITABLE FOR A TYPICAL LOCATION IN THE AEGEAN SEA ADJUSTABLE TO THE LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REQUIREMENTS. THEREFORE. ETHOS IS A STATE-OF-THE ORT PROJECT ON OFFSHORE FLOATING WAVE ENERGY PRODUCTION ENSURING EFFICIENT OFFSHORE WAVE POWER EXPLOITATION. |
