Description: IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT, THE STABILITY CONDITIONS OF THE ROCK SLOPES AND THE FOUNDATION OF THE FORTRESS WALLS OF THE EAST WALL OF AKRONAFPLIA FORTRESS, WILL BE EXAMINED. THE FORTRESS WALLS ARE FOUNDED ON A LIMESTONE ROCK SLOPE WITH SIGNIFICANT HEIGHT. ANALYSIS WILL BE PERFORMED TO DEFINE THE STABILITY CONDITIONS BASED ON THE GEOMETRY AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ROCK MASS DISCONTINUITIES UNDER DIFFERENT LOADING CONDITIONS, I.E. DRY CONDITIONS, WITH PRESENCE OF WATER PRESSURE AND WITH SEISMIC LOADING. THE PROPOSED METHODOLOGY AIMS TO EVALUATE BOTH THE SHORT TERM AND THE LONG TERM RISKS DUE TO THE MOVEMENT OF ROCK BLOCKS ON THE SLOPE AS WELL AS UNDERMINING OF THE WALLS AT THE SLOPE CREST. THE APPLICATION OF ACTIVE AND PASSIVE STABILISATION MEASURES WILL BE EXAMINED. THE INVESTIGATION WILL BE BASED ON SURVEY MAPPING OF THE ENTIRE MONUMENT UNDER STUDY, ARCHITECTURAL STUDY, GEOTECHNICAL STUDY AND STRUCTURAL - EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT STUDY. STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING WILL BE PERFORMED TO COLLECT THE REQUIRED PARAMETERS IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS (WALLS) AND THE PERFORMANCE OF STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS. THE SEISMIC VULNEARABILITY OF THE MONUMENT WILL BE EXAMINED ACCORDINGLY. THE SLOPE STABILISATION MEASURES WILL BE PROPOSED CONSIDERING THE LIMITATIONS TO MAINTAIN THE CULTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE MONUMENT.
