Description: THE STATE OF THE ART OF "SMART" CITIES CONSISTS MAINLY OF FRAGMENTED EFFORTS ATTEMPTING TO PROVIDE BASIC EXAMPLES OF TECHNOLOGIES USAGE AND PROCESSES THAT INTEGRATE A SMART CITY. THIS HAS LED TO MANY DIFFERENT IOT / SMART CITY PLATFORMS (IN GREECE AND GLOBALLY) WITH HETEROGENEOUS DATA, DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES, DIFFERENT WAYS OF STORING AND REPRESENTING DATA, OPEN OR CLOSED ARCHITECTURE, ETC. THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT IS TO DESIGN AND CREATE AN INTEROPERABLE AND OPEN PLATFORM FOR SMART CITIES, ABLE TO SUPPORT FUTURE TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS RELATED TO THE CREATION OF DIGITAL TWINS (DT) AND METAVERSES (META) RELATED TO SMART CITIES. THE METAVERSE IS THE COMBINATION OF REALITY AND VIRTUAL REALITY. IN THIS FRAMEWORK PROJECT WILL STUDY AND PROPOSE TECHNOLOGIES AND ARCHITECTURE FOR NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURES (5G, IOT, AI) AND COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURES (CLOUD AND EDGE CLOUD), WHICH ARE SUITABLE TO DEVELOP AND HOST CITY DTS & MVS FROM VARIOUS URBAN FUNCTIONS SUCH AS ENERGY BUILDINGS, SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY, GREEN DEVELOPMENT, CIRCULAR ECONOMY, SMART GOVERNANCE, SMART TOOLS FOR CITIZENS' PARTICIPATION (CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT, CITIZEN OBSERVATORIES) ETC. AT THE SAME TIME, AN OPEN DIGITAL TWIN FRAMEWORK (ODTF) WILL BE DEVELOPED AS PART OF THE PLATFORM, WHICH WILL BE USED TO CREATE SPECIFIC DT/MVS FOR SMART CITIES. THESE DT/MVS WILL BE THE PILOTS THAT THE USED INFRASTRUCTURES WILL BE IMPLEMENTED AND RUN ON. THE FOCUS WILL BE ON THE INTEROPERABILITY OF APPLICATIONS/DT/MVS SO THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO ACCESS AND EXCHANGE STANDARDIZED DATA USING SMART DATA MODELS, THUS ESTABLISHING AN ENVIRONMENT SUPPORTING OPEN DATA. THE RESULTS OF THE PROJECT WILL SIGNIFICANTLY PROMOTE THE CREATION AND ENHANCEMENT OF INNOVATION BY STUDYING AND EVALUATING INTEGRATED SYSTEMS AND RELATED INTERVENTIONS AT CITY LEVEL AND OPTIMIZE THEM BEFORE AND DURING THEIR IMPLEMENTATION IN REAL ENVIRONMENT.
