Description: | THE ASCEND - ATHENS SUPERBLOCK PROJECT PIONEERS A SUSTAINABLE URBAN TRANSFORMATION, EMPLOYING THE SUPERBLOCK MODEL TO REDESIGN PUBLIC SPACES AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY. THROUGH A PARTICIPATORY APPROACH, THE PROJECT ACTIVELY INVOLVES CITIZENS, LOCAL AUTHORITIES, AND STAKEHOLDERS TO CO-CREATE A GREENER, MORE LIVABLE, AND CLIMATE-RESILIENT URBAN ENVIRONMENT.FUNDED UNDER HORIZON EUROPE’S NETZEROCITIES INITIATIVE, ASCEND INTEGRATES RENEWABLE ENERGY SOLUTIONS, SMART CITY TECHNOLOGIES, AND URBAN GREENING STRATEGIES TO REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS, ENHANCE AIR QUALITY, AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN ATHENS. THE PROJECT’S PILOT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE THE DEPLOYMENT OF SMART GRIDS, SOLAR ENERGY COMMUNITIES, GREEN URBAN SPACES, AND AI-SUPPORTED GIS TOOLS TO OPTIMIZE SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS.ASCEND FOLLOWS A STRUCTURED FRAMEWORK, INCLUDING STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT, TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION, DEMONSTRATION ACTIVITIES, AND IMPACT ASSESSMENT, ENSURING SCALABILITY AND REPLICATION IN OTHER URBAN AREAS. THE PROJECT’S COLLABORATIVE GOVERNANCE AND EMPHASIS ON SOCIAL INCLUSIVITY POSITION IT AS A BENCHMARK FOR SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT ACROSS EUROPE. |
