Description: | MIN'NG AND EXPLOITATION OF ROV/ MATERIALS ARE ACTIVITIES INEXTRICABLY LINKED TO ‘ HE PRODUCTION OF MINING WASTE. ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT CATEGORIES OF MINING WASTE IS TAILINGS, WHICH ARE THE SOLID RESIDUE OF THE BENEFICIATION PROCESSES MIXED WITH WATER. TAILINGS ARE TRANSPORTED THROUGH PIPELINES IN THE FORM OF SLURRY TO TAILINGS STORAGE FACILITIES (TSFS). THESE FACILITIES ARE CRITICAL AS ANY FAILURE CAN RESULT IN THE RELEASE AND FLOW OF TAILINGS TO THE SURROUNDING AREA WITH HUGE SOCIAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES. IN THE CONTEXT OF THIS THESIS, THE RISKS THAT CAN AFFECT THE TSFS WILL BE IDENTIFIED AND ANALYZED. EMPHASIS WILL BE PLACED ON THE MULTI-HAZARD ANALYSIS, WHICH REFERS TO HAZARDS THAT CAN OCCUR ONE AFTER THE OTHER OR SIMULTANEOUSLY AND AFFECT DIFFERENT FACILITY ELEMENTS CONCURRENTLY. IN ADDITION, A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH WILL CONSIDER THE INTERDEPENDENCY OF THE SPECIFIC GEOLOGICAL, HYDROGEOLOGICAL, GEOTECHNICA'. CLIMATIC, AND TOPOGRAPHICAL CHARACTERISTICS THAT MAY BE RISK SOURCES, WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF QUANTITATIVE INDICATORS THAT CONSIDER THESE CHARACTERISTICS. AT THE SAME TIME, THE IM PACT OF THE CLIMATE CRISIS ON INCREASING THE PROBABILITY OF OCCURRENCE OF TSF*' HAZARDS WILL BE EXAMINED AS ITS EFFECTS ARE BECOMING INCREASINGLY EVIDENT IN MORE AND MORE TYPES OF INFRASTRUCTURE. QUANTITATIVE VULNERABILITY ANALYSES WILL BE CARRIED OUT TO INVESTIGATE THE CONSEQUENCES THAT CONSIDER THE QUALITY AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TSFS AND THE POPULAT ON DENSIFY OF THE SURROUNDING AREAS OF THE FACILITIES. THE THESIS'S FINAL STAGES WILL DETERMINE THE ACCEPTABLE RISK LEVELS ANA PROPOSE MEASURES AND PRACTICES TO MANAGE AND MITIGATE THE RISKS. |
