Description: | THE PROJECT INTRICATE INVESTIGATES THE POSSIBILITY OF ADAPTING CIRCULAR ECONOMY PRINCIPLES IN FISH FARMS, AND REPLACING PLASTIC AS A RAW MATERIAL THUS, CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROTECTION OF MARINE AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS. THE CLEANING PROCESSES AND RECYCLING POTENTIAL OF FISH NETS ALREADY IN USE WILL BE INVESTIGATED, AS WELL AS THE ADOPTION OF INNOVATIVE MATERIALS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF NETS WITH A VIEW TO REPLACING PLASTIC, AND THEIR OPTIMAL CIRCULAR MANAGEMENT. PILOT TESTS OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NEW MATERIALS WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN THE SCALE MODEL FISH CAGE TO BE BUILT AT NTUA. THE INTEGRATION OF THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY WILL BE INVESTIGATED AT ALL STAGES OF THE NETWORKS IN THE FISH FARMS, FROM RAW MATERIAL, CONSTRUCTION, RESPONSIBLE USE AND SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT. LIVE WORKSHOPS WITH STAKEHOLDERS WILL BE IMPLEMENTED, TO INTEGRATE PROPOSALS INTO THE POLICIES FOR THE EXTENDED RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FISHING GEAR PRODUCER (LAW 4736/2020) AND THE ADOPTION OF SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES BY FISH FARMING COMPANIES. |
