Description: CIRCULAR ECONOMY HAS RECEIVED GREAT INTEREST LATELY FROM POLICY MAKERS AND REGULATORS. TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE LEVEL OF CIRCULARITY IN A SYSTEM OR A PRODUCT, SEVERAL CIRCULARITY ASSESSMENT METHODS HAVE EMERGED RECENTLY. HOWEVER, THE CIRCULARITY ASSESSMENT HAS NOT BEEN LINKED WITH SUSTAINABILITY IMPACTS OF THE SYSTEM OR PRODUCT IN A COHERENT MANNER UP TO NOW. SOME ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO PROPOSE METHODS THAT WOULD ASSESS ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY ALONGSIDE CIRCULARITY; BUT THERE IS NONE THAT ATTEMPTS TO LINK ALSO THE SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY. SINCE SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY CAN BE SEVERELY AFFECTED BY CHOICES MADE DURING THE DESIGN OR RE-DESIGN OF CIRCULAR SYSTEMS, THIS IS CRUCIAL TO BE CONSIDERED. THE CISAMS PROJECT AIMS TO DEVELOP A NOVEL METHOD THAT WILL ASSESS CIRCULARITY, ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY IN AN INTEGRATED MANNER. WITHIN THE PROJECT, LISTS OF KEY INDICATORS FOR ASSESSING CIRCULARITY, ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY WILL BE CREATED, FOCUSING ON MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS AND PRODUCTS. SCORING MECHANISMS WILL BE CREATED FOR EACH OF THESE AREAS. SUBSEQUENTLY, A MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION ANALYSIS METHOD WILL BE DEVELOPED, TO ALLOW THE INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT OF ALL THREE AREAS. FINALLY AN ANALYTICAL TRADE-OFFS ASSESSMENT METHOD WILL BE DEVELOPED THAT WILL ALLOW UNDERSTANDING AND QUANTIFICATION OF THE TRADEOFFS BETWEEN THE PERFORMANCE IN THE THREE AREAS, FOR ALTERNATIVE CIRCULAR PATHWAYS OR PRODUCTION PROCESSES AND PRODUCTS. THE METHOD WILL ALLOW MORE INFORMED DECISIONS IN THE SHIFT TOWARD CIRCULAR PRODUCTION PROCESSES IN THE INDUSTRY AND THE MANUFACTURING SECTOR.
