Description: THE RESPONSE OF AN ISOLATED REINFORCED CONCRETE FOOTING OF A TYPICAL WIND GENERATOR TOWER UNDER SERVICE AND ULTIMATE LIMIT STATE LOADING IS ANALYTICALLY INVESTIGATED, USING INELASTIC FINITE ELEMENT MODELING. FOR THIS PURPOSE, THE STEEL SHELL OF THE WIND TOWER, THE CONCRETE FOOTING AND THE DISCRETE STEEL REINFORCEING BARS ARE MODELED USING SHELL, THREE-DIMENSIONAL BRICK AND ONE DIMENSIONAL LINE ELEMENTS, RESPECTIVELY. THE INELASTIC SOLUTIONS TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE TRIAXIAL FAILURE SURFACE OF THE CONCRETE, THE INELASTICITY OF THE REINFORCEMENT AND THE UPLIFT RESPONSE OF THE FOOTING, WHICH IS CONSIDERED TO BE FOUNDED ON A WINKLER FOUNDATION. FOR MODELING THE FOUNDATION, DIFFERENT SOIL CHARACTERISTICS (SOIL MODULEI) ARE CONSIDERED IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE THE INFLUENCE OF THE SOIL TO THE ULTIMATE LOAD AND THE FAILURE MODE OF THE FOOTING.
