Description: THE PROJECT INVESTIGATES AI POTENTIAL FOR REMOTELY SENSING MARINE DEBRIS BY FOCUSING ON TWO DIFFERENT NESTED MODULES, EXPLOITING SENTINEL-2 (S2) AND PLANETSCOPE (PS). IT IS IMPORTANT TO EXPLOIT ALL AVAILABLE S2 SPECTRAL BANDS TO DISTINGUISH DEBRIS FROM OTHER FEATURES ON BEACHES AND NEARSHORE (AS MARINE DEBRIS PRESENTS HIGH REFLECTANCE VALUES IN 865-1600NM) AND IMPROVE S2 SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL RESOLUTIONS. 1ST MODULE IS DEVOTED TO PRODUCING IMPROVED S2 DATA THROUGH SPATIO-TEMPORAL FUSION TECHNIQUES EXPLOITING PS SPATIO-TEMPORAL FINE RESOLUTIONS AND S2 SPECTRAL RESOLUTION. 2ND MODULE IS DEVOTED TO MARINE DEBRIS DETECTION ON THE NEW, IMPROVED DATA. 2 CUSTOM-BASED CNN ARCHITECTURES ARE INVESTIGATED: RESNET, U-NET. THE FINAL OUTPUT IS A HOT SPOT MAP OF MARINE DEBRIS ACCUMULATION. IT IS EVALUATED AGAINST END-USER REQUIREMENTS. THE DEMONSTRATION CASE IS REALISED ALONG AN AREA OFTEN HIT BY DEBRIS WAVES.
