Description: ΤHE PURPOSE OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT IS TO CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION RELATED TO THE EFFECT OF THE ENGINE'S OPERATING CONDITION ON THE FRACTURE OCCURRED ON THE T/C TURBINE BLADES OF THE VESSELS MARAN VENTURE AND MARAN EXCELLENCE OF THE MARAN DRY COMPANY. THE RESEARCH WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THE "LABORATORY OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES" OF NTUA AND WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1. COLLECTION OF ENGINE PERFORMANCE DATA FROM BOTH VESSELS (FROM PMI, NOON REPORTS ETC).
2. EXTRACTION OF OPERATING DATA FROM PMI DATABASE AND CONVERSION TO PYTHIA FORMAT FOR PROCESSING.
3. COLLECTION OF INFORMATION REGARDING ENGINE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR WORK CONDUCTED ON TCS SINCE FIRST VESSEL OPERATION.
4. EVALUATION OF ENGINE PERFORMANCE HISTORY USING ACTUAL DATA FROM PMI (CYLINDER PRESSURE DATA) AND DATA FROM THE SHOP TESTS.
5. FOR PREVIOUS AND FOR USE OF ENGINE SIMULATOR A TYPICAL “PYTHIA” SOFTWARE WILL BE PREPARED FOR THE SPECIFIC VESSELS.
6. DETAILED EVALUATION OF SCRUBBER EFFECT ON BACKPRESSURE USING AVAILABLE MEASURED DATA AND PYTHIA ENGINE SIMULATOR.
