Description: THE PURPOSE OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT IS TO CONDUCT A MATERIAL INVESTIGATION FOR THE FRACTURED BLADES OF THE T/C TURBINES OF VESSELS "MARAN VENTURE" AND "MARAN EXCELLENCE" ΤΗΣ ΕΤΑΙΡΕΙΑΣ MARAN DRY. THE INVESTIGATION INVOLES THE “SHIPBUILDING TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY” OF NTUA AND COMPRISES THE FOLLOWING:
1. CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF THE BLADE’S MATERIAL BY OPTICAL EMISSION SPECTROSCOPY.
2. OPTICAL EXAMINATION OF THE FRACTURE SURFACES WITH STEREO OPTICAL MICROSCOPE.
3. FRACTOGRAPHY WITH SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE (SEM) EQUIPPED WITH EDS FOR LOCAL CHEMICAL ANALYSES ON SELECTED AREAS.
4. METALLOGRAPHIC STUDY ON TRANSVERSE CROSS SECTIONS WHICH WILL BE EXTRACTED BOTH ALONG THE CRACK PATH, AS WELL AS, AT SELECTED AREAS OF THE BLADE.
5. MICROHARDNESS MEASUREMENTS ON SELECTED AREAS OF THE METALLOGRAPHIC SPECIMENS
6. LOCAL CHEMICAL ANALYSIS WITH SEM/EDS ON THE METALLOGRAPHIC SPECIMENS.
INSPECTIONS NO: 2, 3, 4 REFER TO THE FRACTURED SURFACES OF THE BROKEN BLADES. SO THERE ARE TWO CASES.
THE REMAINING TESTS (MAINLY MATERIAL TESTS) WILL INCLUDE THE BROKEN BLADES BUT BASED ON THE FINDINGS WILL BE, IF NECESSARY, EXTENDED TO SELECTED REMAINING BLADES OF EACH TC.
